The name Hwa-On draws inspiration from the Korean word “hwa,” symbolizing fire — the central element of Korean barbecue where food is cooked over flame and shared among friends and family.
“On” represents warmth. Together, the name reflects the warmth that fire brings — not just through cooking, but through people coming together, sharing meals, and building community.

Hwa-On is the newest concept from the team behind Mikomi Sushi and Seoul Alley, built on more than 25 years of experience in the culinary world. While the group has long specialized in Asian cuisine, the owners’ roots are Korean, and expanding deeper into Korean food has always been part of their vision.
With Culver City’s growing dining and nightlife scene, the team saw an opportunity to introduce Korean barbecue to a neighborhood that currently lacks a local destination for it. Instead of needing to drive to Koreatown, locals, professionals, and visitors will experience Korean barbecue right in the heart of Culver City.

A Historic Home
for a New Chapter
Hwa-On will be located inside the historic Citizen Publishing Company Building, a landmark in Culver City dating back to the 1920s. Once home to a local newspaper and a center for community news, the space felt like the perfect place to bring people together again — this time through food and Korean culture.
Hwa-On is a proud sister concept to Lune Terrace, the New American Rooftop Bar located on the upper floor of the same building — offering guests a complete dining and nightlife experience under one roof.
